This is great! And thanks for recommending Calligrapher--I'm in the early stages of making a font, and that was the step that I was most uncertain about (creating the .otf)

There are also some open source tools like Birdfont and FontForge that I looked into but it seemed like you had to draw the vectors in so Calligrapher was nice to take an existing image and convert it over.

I’m curious what will work for your typewriter font because I have a dot matrix typewriter and I’d love to capture that detail in a digital font!

Yeah, I’m not sure how that one is going to work — I made it in an odd way, lol 😅 but if I figure it out I’ll let you know!! ✌️

Thank you!!!! Also working on making my own font and figured out the first few steps for digitizing but was stuck from there. Thank you for the clear explanations and sharing your process. I am foraging for wild fonts and "street stamping" with clay instead of carving them but both techniques create a stamped image. I'm so excited to try out your digital advice.
